ROOSEVELT ISLAND WALKING TOUR

ID : 58017
« back to classes page
This small, two-mile strip of land that sits between the boroughs of Manhattan and Queens, under the massive, cantilevered Queensboro Bridge, is loaded with history both old and new. Whether your interest is in architecture dating back to the early 19th century, or institutions that once were the home for pathological and bacteriological research, or New York City (NYC) Asylum for the Mentally Insane, one of the first institutions of its kind established in this country, you’ll find it here on Roosevelt Island. The island also offers spectacular views of its neighboring boroughs as you stroll along the promenade leading to/from the recently completed FDR Four Freedoms Park. Tour price includes luxury van transportation to/from NYC and Metrocard fare to Roosevelt Island via a 3-minute ride on the Roosevelt Island tram 250 feet above the East River. Lunch can be purchased on the island or you can bring your own. This is not a big-bus tour. Mario Medici is a licensed NewYork City tour guide and has studied the island extensively. Mario will provide commentary, while we tour the island. Wear good-walking shoes, as we will cover 2-3 miles on mostly flat terrain. Rain date:  TBD
