Today we'll experience the lively, unique and culturally rich neighborhood of Harlem. We begin making our way into NYC meeting our knowledgeable NYC tour guide at the New York Historical Society where she will guide us thru an outstanding exhibit of sculptures created by Augusta Savage, one of America's most influential 20th century American Artists. These sculptures were originally exhibited at the 1939 World's Fair. We will also have some free time to explore additional exhibits. Next stop, a bountiful lunch at Sylvia's
- the BEST soul food restaurant in the Harlem (chicken, ribs, 2 sides, beverages and dessert served family style). After lunch we'll continue on our journey seeing the beautiful townhouses on famous Strivers Row, past famous monuments, and prized architectural landmarks. We'll then visit Harlem Hospital where we will have a private tour of the remarkable WPA Mural Collection, then end our day at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture where we'll view outstanding artwork and learn about its historical importance. We will return home with a deeper appreciation of African-American culture and its significance on the legacy of NYC. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
